AutoVPN detects whether a laptop is already connected to your corporate network, based on a configured list of subnets. If the laptop isn't connected to one of those networks, then it turns on the VPN. If the laptops is then taken into the office, it turns the VPN back off.
If connecting with a VPN doesn't work, AutoVPN tries to figure out why and provide the user with a sensible and actionable message.
The underlying VPN is up to the administrator, but any VPN that can be enabled or disabled by enabling or disabling a service will work. OpenVPN and Wireguard are good choices.
